Before placing a production order for OEM SSDs, testing samples is essential. A thorough sample evaluation can prevent costly quality issues down the line. Here is a practical testing checklist.
Use CrystalDiskMark or similar tools to verify sequential read/write speeds and random IOPS. Compare results against the datasheet specifications. Acceptable variance is within 5% of advertised speeds.
Test the sample SSD on multiple platforms: different motherboard chipsets (Intel, AMD), operating systems (Windows, Linux), and form factor slots. Verify boot times, driver detection, and sustained performance.
Monitor SSD temperature during sustained read/write operations. NVMe SSDs typically throttle at 75-80C. If your sample throttles too early, request a firmware adjustment from your OEM partner.
Inspect physical build: PCB thickness, component alignment, solder joint quality, and label printing. For OEM custom labeling, verify the printing is clear, aligned, and scratch-resistant.
